Children view their birthdays as a kind of magic unparalleled to anything else in this world. They’ve spent another year learning and growing and competing in life, and now they’re ready to party and celebrate! Unfortunately for many of us, that kind of magic fades as we get older, and we stop being able to think creatively about birthdays. We want to make the day unforgettable and surprising for kids, but we don’t want to give away the surprise by asking them what would excite them. Here are some of the best ways to surprise kids on their birthdays while having some fun yourself.
If you tell your child you’re going to Disney World, their energy level will be through the roof for the whole time leading up to it. What you can do to excite and thrill is to surprise them with a trip to Disney instead. There are a couple of ways to do this, but they can become complicated if not done well. If you live within a couple of hours of a Disney resort, this is far easier for you since you can drive and tell them you’re going somewhere else.
If you’re out of state, tell your child that you’re going to visit a beach. They’ll be excited about the beach and the sun and sand! Surprise them once they get there with their pair of Mickey’s ears to give away the plan!
A less expensive surprise than flying them out of state is to throw a party that has their favorite characters from television and movies! You can find party characters for hire who are happy to play anyone from Disney princesses to Paw Patrol for your kids’ parties. Please plan and figure out which characters mean the most to your child, and then look around for an area with someone who can play them. Unfortunately, this is far easier to do in large cities, but you can still make it happen in smaller ones if you want to go the DIY route.
Food Machine Rental
Most people don’t know you can rent almost any kind of food machine you can think of, from hiring an ice cream truck to cater the party to renting out a cotton candy machine so that you can make puffy clouds of sugar for party-goers. It’s vital that before the party, you check to see if any of the guests have food allergies, but after that, have fun with it! You can even theme a party around it by hanging a projector in your yard for an at-home movie day and rent a large popcorn machine to let people snack while they enjoy the film. This kind of fun will make your party kid’s birthday more magical, and let them know you’re thinking of them.
The best way to plan a surprise is to ask your child soon after their last birthday. Bring it up in casual conversation, and try to dig for information. Please don’t do it too close to their birthday, or your kid will realize what you’re up to!
